WILDERNESS COURSE 0 SAFETY

At a Negi Sports Children Wilderness Education Course you're taught the outdoor leadership and skills you need to take to enjoy safely, comfortably and be responsible in the backpacking ways. Safety is of paramount importance to Negi Sports. We employ strict standards placing your safety as our first priority. Course leaders frequently discuss outdoor safety aspects with the participants. In order to maintain our excellent safety record, it is important that participants operate as advised by the staff.

Since 2003, over 18000 individuals have participated in our wilderness courses. Risk is a platform for delivering meaningful, growth, physical fitness, and leadership. To venture forth, to seek adventure and to try your best, even when you are not certain you will succeed, is the basis of the Negi Sports Wilderness experience. On a Negi Sports Children Wilderness Education Course, you will be living and traveling in remote wilderness settings that will expose you to certain risks. We believe those risks will enable you to gain insights and perspectives unavailable anywhere else. Risk and uncertainty are central to the concept of adventure.

Participants stay in all weatherproof tents. Depending on the weather, participants may be exposed to wet or cold conditions or other natural hazards. However, we do halt an activity and move to the most protected area in the event of lightening, severe rains, high winds or any other natural hazards. You will be responsible for transporting your own gear. You will sleep outdoors, with 2-4-6-8 children per tent and prepare your own meals (only in some courses). You are also expected to take care of yourself in weather conditions that can be extreme.

Wilderness activity involves hazards like rock fall, wild rivers and freezing temperatures that can pose a risk even to the most experienced outdoor leader. Activities range from simple day hikes to climbing hills and can, due to error in judgment or the unpredictable forces of nature, become dangerous and potentially life threatening.

The majority of medical incidents (sprains, flu, diarrhea, etc.) may be treated in the field. A more serious incident, such as a fracture, will require evacuation of the patient to a medical facility. In our outdoor programs we have planned carefully and are equipped to handle most situations. Transportation is available to evacuate in case of an emergency. Hospitals are 30-60 minutes away from the camp area and the access time can vary incase the emergency arises away from the main campus. It is important you understand that there are risks.

Please understand that outdoor activities always contain an element of inherent risk. There are some activities during your course that are physically strenuous, containing an element of personal risk. Some adventure programs say that they can guarantee your safety. Negi Sports Children Wilderness Education Course does not. The risk of injury, even serious injury or death, is unavoidable in the outdoor environment in which we teach. Indeed, much of the value of our course lies in learning how to identify hazards and adapt behavior, not only on the course, but also for a lifetime of enjoying the outdoors.

We request that, you, as a participant or a parent/guardian (in case of minor) spend time to read this document and our Catalog carefully and understand the outdoor program structure thoroughly read all materials we send you and call us if you have any questions.
